Song: Nocturne Album: Bloodywood Type: Indie Artist: Pentagram Rating: 4.0 The electronica genre and its variations are not my favorite. Which means Bloodywood, in general, isn’t on top of my playing lists. Nocturne is the exception. Probably because it’s one of the mellower numbers and the only alt rock song in the album. iTunes US iTunes UK Flipkart |
Song: Saali Khushi Kaha Chali Album: Dev D Type: Bollywood Singers: Amit Trivedi Music Director: Amit Trivedi Lyricist: Amitabh Bhattacharya Rating: 3.6 Dark lyrics and a mellow tune go together very well in this track. Short but awesome song. iTunes US iTunes UK iTunes Canada Flipkart |
Song: Dua Album: Kurbaan Type: Bollywood Singers: Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher, Marianne D’Cruz Music Director: Salim-Sulaiman Lyricist: Niranjan Iyengar Rating: 4.0 The mandatory Sufi-Pop/Rock song that every movie must have these days. Leaving aside the fact that it tries to ride on an ‘in’ genre, it’s a pretty good song. Don’t like the pop chorus though. iTunes US iTunes UK Flipkart |
Song: Ladki Badi Anjani Hai Album: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Type: Bollywood Singers: Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik Music Director: Jatin-Lalit Lyricist: Sameer Rating: 3.7 A huge song in its time, but hasn’t aged well over the years. The tune itself isn’t too bad but the instrumentation is overdone. iTunes US iTunes UK iTunes Canada Flipkart |
Song: Ocean Album: Houses Of The Holy Type: Rock Artist: Led Zeppelin Rating: 4.8 John Bonham starts the songs with “We’ve done four already, but now we’re steady, and then they went 1, 2, 3, 4!” referring to the takes they did before this one. A song that keeps throwing surprises at you – the break in the middle of the song when the music stops and you can only hear Robert Plant humming “la la…” with no music, and the achingly beautiful, minute-long guitar solo at the end – one of my (many) favorite Jimmy Page solos. iTunes US iTunes UK iTunes Canada Flipkart |
Song: Aao Milo Chale Album: Jab We Met Type: Bollywood Singers: Shaan Music Director: Pritam Lyricist: Irshad Kamil Rating: 3.6 I loved “Aao Milo Chale” till I heard this really awesome Indonesian song. Now I only like it. The reason I rate this songs relatively high is because Shaan sings with a lot of soul. His second best song in my book after “Tanha Dil”. iTunes US iTunes UK iTunes Canada Flipkart |
Song: Mess It Up Album: Mumbai Mast Kallandar Type: Bollywood Singers: Shail Hada, Earl Edgar Music Director: Anaamik Chauhan Lyricist: Azeem Shirazi, Earl Edgar Rating: 3.2 A well-intentioned, rock ballad type track. Cool chorus. But doesn’t stick for some reason. iTunes US iTunes UK iTunes Canada Flipkart |
Song: Karimizhi Album: Meesa Madhavan Type: Mollywood Singers: Vidhu Pratap, Sujatha Music Director: Vidyasagar Lyricist: Girish Puthencheri Rating: 4.7 A nice, clean, wholesome, no-frills melody with very good vocals. |
Song: Thendral Varum Album: Friends Type: Koliwood Singers: Hariharan, Bhavatharini Music Director: Ilayaraja Lyricist: Palani Bharathi Rating: 3.9 A light, mellow song. Bhavatharini voice doesn’t quite gel but Hariharan is brilliant. This song might be a great candidate for the Harmonize Projekt. |
Song: Ke Bin Tere Album: Aggar Type: Bollywood Singers: Mithoon Music Director: Mithoon Lyricist: Sayeed Quadri Rating: 4.1 The songs has some cool acoustic guitar and good singing. But it’s the harmony infused chorus (Hamza and Kshitij join Mithoon) that makes a lasting impact – it’s very addictive and very hummable. iTunes US iTunes UK iTunes Canada Flipkart |

Surprised and a bit disappointed to see the jab we met Shaan number rated below KKHH song. Even I think that is one of the soulful renditions by Shaan like Tanha and even Fanaa. jab we met is one of the few recent movies where I felt all songs very of good quality from all aspects including lyrics. My mostovav is the Mohit chauhan number…na hai yeh pana
One of the rating parameters is Originality. Aao Milo Chale rated very low on that parameter because it copied without giving credit to the original (I posted a link to the original Indonesian song. You should check it out.) Musically Ladki Badi Anjani rated lower but scored higher on originality.
